Wisniewski, Hogan Shine As Eagles Win Super Bowl Over Patriots

The Philadelphia Eagles took down the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII Sunday night, causing a scene in downtown State College as Eagles fans gathered in celebration.

Each team had one Penn Stater on its roster. Chris Hogan played well for New England as one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets, while Stefen Wisniewski anchored the Eagles’ offensive line, which didn’t allow a sack all game.

Patriots wide receiver Brandin Cooks left the game in the first quarter after taking a brutal hit early in the second quarter, opening the door for Chris Hogan to step into his role on offense. The former lacrosse standout starred for New England. His 128 receiving yards ranked second on the team behind Danny Amendola. Hogan’s 26-yard touchdown pulled New England within three points as the team attempted to come back from a 22-12 halftime deficit.

Meanwhile, Wisniewski was a rock all game long for the Eagles. He led the team’s offensive line throughout the evening and held New England without a sack for the duration of the game. That was no easy task for the Eagles, who were facing an elite front seven with the likes of James Harrison and Malcolm Brown. Wisniewski, who played for Penn State from 2007 to 2009, was shaken up briefly during the third quarter, but returned to finish off his first Super Bowl victory.

Regardless of the result, a Penn State alumnus was guaranteed to pick up a Super Bowl ring this season. Much to the delight of those in Happy Valley who hail from “just outside Philly”, Wisniewski’s Eagles emerged victorious to pick up their first-ever Super Bowl title.
