Woskob Family Gallery to Host 'Pedestrian Rules' Exhibition

by on January 14, 2018 5:00 AM

The Woskob Family Gallery in State College will host "Pedestrian Rules," an exhibition of photographic and time-based works by Haigen G. Pearson, Tyson Washburn and Barbara Weissberger, from Jan. 25 to March 3.

An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25.

The three artists explore commonplace sights such as buildings, boxes and reflections to speculate about viewers’ relationships with ambiguity in everyday experience.

Pearson’s "Maintenance-Roma" is a video work in which a looping group of still images shows paint-splattered yellow traffic dividers repeating throughout the city. In Washburn’s photographs, city blocks and buildings are cropped into tight horizontals, with the removal of broader context resulting in landscapes and structures that appear in stages of abandonment. In Weissberger’s work, materials such as aluminum foil, cardboard and pencils are layered and combined through the camera’s aperture, complicating and creating doubt about normally identifiable objects.

Woskob Family Gallery, operated by Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture, is located at 146 S. Allen Street. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
