Penn State picked up its sixth verbal commitment for the recruiting Class of 2013 on Monday, the same day the Nittany Lions opened spring practice.

Council Rock North’s Curtis Cothran, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound defensive end, gave his pledge to Penn State, according to the Penn State football website, Lions247.com, which rates him as a three-star prospect.

Rivals.com and Scout.com have yet to rate Cothran, who also held offers from Maryland and Rutgers, among others.

Verbal commitments are not binding until a letter of intent is submitted as early as Feb. 6, 2013.
