Decision 2012 is in.

Matt McGloin is Penn State's starting quarterback.

"He was the most consistent guy in the spring and has good command of the offense at this point," coach Bill O'Brien said at Friday's Coaches vs. Cancer golf event. "He's a tough kid. He's a competitive kid, has good leadership qualities, just felt like he's the No. 1 quarterback."

Paul Jones is currently the No. 2 quarterback, followed by Rob Bolden, who is back on campus and working out for the summer. O'Brien did not share when he made the decision.

O'Brien could release a complete team depth chart as early as Tuesday.

Drake Kicked Off Team

The other big personnel note was cornerback Curtis Drake being dismissed from the team. O'Brien said Drake will not have an opportunity to earn his way back on the team. He did not give a reason for Drake's dismissal, but he has had a string of off-field and academic issues.

Discipline for Smith Will Depend on Legal System

Also, O'Brien said he will wait for the legal process to run its course before making any disciplinary decision regarding senior wide receiver Devon Smith, who was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Smith waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday and has enrolled in the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program for first-time offenders.

"At the end of the day we'll see what happens," O'Brien said. "If I have to make a discipline decision with Devon Smith, I'll keep it with Devon and I."
