Borough Council to Hold Public Hearing Monday, CATA Budget to be Revealed
CATA will announce its 2012-13 budget Monday night and borough council will hold a public hearing on the proposed Capital Improvement Plan at its regular meeting.
Council has spent several weeks reviewing the plan, which spans 2013-17 and includes myriad areas of the borough, including the hot topic of possibly razing the Pugh Street parking garage and building a new one in a different location.
The parking garage plan still is in the early stages, but two engineering firms determined that the Pugh Street garage is nearing the end of its useful life.
Parking Manager Charles DeBow presented to council numbers that proved it would be fiscally more responsible to build an entirely new garage rather than try and renovate the current garage over and over again.
Borough council also will discuss the CATA budget for the upcoming year. The budget hasn't been released yet, but according to CATA's website, it runs concurrent with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's fiscal year, which runs from July 1 through June 30.
Council meetings are open to the public and start at 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Municipal Building, 234 S. Allen St.
