A frightening motorcycle accident sends two people to the hospital.

State College Police say the wreck happened Monday afternoon at the corner of East Hamilton Avenue and South Garner Street.

The motorcycle was traveling east on East Hamilton Avenue when, after not initially seeing a stop sign, the driver stopped short. The motorcycle's front wheel hit a bump and the bike flipped over, sending the driver and a passenger over the handlebars.

The female passenger was treated for broken bones. The driver complained of pain in his chest, left leg and back hand and had multiple abrasions, police said. Both were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment.

The driver told investigators he was new to the area and unfamiliar with the roads.

Police say the driver was cited for minor violations, including riding without a helmet, speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign.
