State College police are still searching for a suspect who attacked a Penn State student early last weekend, sending the victim to the hospital.

The incident happened in the 200 block of South Pugh Street, near the Days Inn hotel around 1 a.m. Sunday. It's unclear what triggered the assault. Police say there was no interaction between the suspect and victim beforehand.

Investigators say the suspect was part of a group of 15 to 20 people. He left the group, crossed the street and punched the 22-year-old victim, causing injuries to the man's head and face. Afterwards, the assailant returned to the group and continued walking towards Beaver Avenue.

Initially, police had only a sketchy description of the suspect, but have now released new details. The suspect is described as a college-aged black male with a medium complexion. He's about six feet tall and was wearing a gray and red knit hat with a pom-pom on top, tan jacket, dark cargo pants and tan boots.

The victim was treated at Geisinger Medical Center and released after spending a day at the hospital.

A reward of $1,000 is now being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
