Penn State has finally checked off "conference road win" from its bucket list as a program and will try and do it again this weekend.

Only this time the Nittany Lions will face the No. 2 ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Coming off a series in Ann Arbor Michigan that featured a comeback overtime victory over the No. 10 ranked Wolverines, Penn State will need to bring its A-game in order to pull off another road shocker.

“The Mariucci Arena is another fantastic building obviously,” said Penn State coach Guy Gadowsky of the road trip this weekend. “This is why you want to come to the Big Ten because you have the best programs and the best atmospheres.”

This will make the second series between the two programs this season, Minnesota knocked off Penn State in both of the last two games while ranked No. 1 in the nation. Even so, Penn State gave the Gophers all they could handle as both games were not decided until the final 20 minutes of play. The Nittany Lions fell in the first meeting and 5-2 the next night although the 5-2 final was a closer game than the final score indicated.

Sophomores David Glen and Curtis Loik, who collected his first career-multi-point game Jan. 13, led the Nittany Lions with a goal and an assist each in the series, while sophomore Kenny Brooks and junior Taylor Holstrom added one goal each.

“The games against Minnesota will be very similar to the atmosphere at Yost [Michigan's storied arena] for sure,” says sophomore forward Casey Bailey. “Minnesota’s a very historic program, they have great facilities and we’re all excited for the opportunity and the chance.”

Friday night's contest will air on the Big Ten Network with the puck drop scheduled for 9 p.m.
