Jersey Mike's, a franchised sub shop, will open a second location in the State College area later this year at the expanding Fulton Center.
The Fulton Center, owned by Fulton Bank on North Atherton Street, is expanding with a second structure next to the existing Fulton Bank branch, according to Terry Cain, director of facilities and construction at Fulton Bank.
Construction for the three-story building with roughly 11,000 square feet started in June. It's expected to be complete this fall.
Jersey Mike's is slated to occupy the building's first floor. In 2012, Matt and Kristie Patterson opened a Jersey Mike's franchise on South Allen Street in downtown State College. That location will remain open for business and Matt Patterson says there's a demand for a second location.
"We get a lot of locals who do come downtown that like our product and love our location, but downtown is a little more difficult for them to get to. North Atherton Street seemed to be the next logical place because there is a much more local market, locally driven with the community and will attract more families and people who don't typically get downtown," says Matt Patterson. "We love the downtown location and the university here definitely helps. We're just looking to expand our customer base."
Fulton Bank administrative offices will occupy the third floor. The offices will be in addition to the existing full-service branch on-site.
The bank is in the process of selecting companies to lease office space on the second floor.
The structure is phase two of the bank's Fulton Center project.
"We were leasing office space and we were outgrowing it so not only does this give us additional space that we needed to do our work, but it's also at one location," says Cain.
