Schlow Centre Region Library will continue its 60th anniversary celebration with a weekend full of events June 2 and 3.
The library will host "Mid-Century Memories" at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 2. Centre County Historical Society President Katie O'Toole will moderate a panel of longtime State College residents who will discuss life in the borough when Schlow opened in 1957. The panel will include Lee Stout, Galen Dreibelbis, Timmy Weinstein Shanahan and Linda Chambers Domin.
The interactive program will be followed by a display of historic memorabilia and a reception.
Schlow will then hold a Community Open House on Saturday, June 3, in conjunction with the library's Summer Reading Kickoff Party. Events for all ages will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as the library showcases its history and offerings while thanking the community for its support through the years.
Children will be able to visit the Children's Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to start summer reading with Ike the Spike, the BB&T Nook, Elmo, Spiderman and Nemo. Activities will include the Dinorific Scientific Big Dig Show at 11 a.m., a performance by Two of a Kind at 1:30 p.m. and Mr. Mike's Dinorific Scientific Name Game Show at 3 p.m.
Teens and adults can also sign up for the summer reading program from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the library and have a chance to win tickets to Happy Valley Music Fest.
