Where it took extra time to decide Friday night's game, Penn State made sure that it's lead stayed that way as the Nittany Lions beat No. 11 Ohio State 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
It was a scoreless first period in Columbus as Penn State went with Peyton Jones in goal after Chris Funkey's 40+ save effort the night before. The sophomore goalie made a huge glove save in the second period's opening minutes before Andrew Sturtz cashed in on a shorthanded chance to put Penn State up 1-0 just 1:22 into the middle frame.
And then Denis Smirnov added another, doubling Penn State's lead. Smirnov's goal was his first since his return from an illness taking the pass from Brandon Biro to extend the margin to two goals.
Biro added one of his own to put Penn State up 3-0 early in the third period and Liam Folkes continued to offensive onslaught putting Penn State up four goals with just five minutes to play in regulation.
The win makes it six straight unbeaten for a Penn State team finding its stride nearing the midway point of the season. Jones' shutout was a 33-save effort for his third scoreless outing of his career.
