Penn State Football Finishes No. 8 In Final AP Poll, Lands At No. 11 In ESPN Way-Too-Early Poll For 2018
Penn State will finish the season ranked in the Top 10 for the second consecutive year as the Nittany Lions land at No. 8 in the AP Poll announced on Tuesday.
The ranking comes following a hectic bowl season inclduing Penn State's victory over Washington in the Fiesta Bowl in December. The Nittany Lions finished at No. 7 following last season’s Rose Bowl loss to USC.
Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Clemson rounded out the top four, followed by Ohio State, UCF, and Wisconsin.
By the end of the year Penn State had racked up a handful of marquee wins including victories over Northwestern, Michigan, and Washington. The Nittany Lions also held second half leads over Ohio State and Michigan State before losing by a combined point total of four points.
ESPN released its early 2018 season rankings following Alabama's overtime victory against Georgia on Monday night. Penn State found itself at No. 11 but like every program, faces the ups and downs of a long offseason before practice begins again.
The Nittany Lions open their 2018 schedule at home on September 1 against Appalachian State.
