Penn State's big recruiting weekend got off to a fast start Friday as the Nittany Lions added Rivals' five-star running back Devyn Ford to the fold. Ford announced his commitment to the 2019 class around 4:30.
The Virginia native and North Stafford running back selected Penn State over Virginia Tech after narrowing his options down to just two schools out of over two dozen. Ford is the fifth member of Penn State's 2019 haul.
According to Rivals, Ford is rated the top prospect in the state of Virginia and the top running back in the nation. The 247 Network rates him the third best back in the nation and second best prospect in the state.
The commitment means that Penn State has landed the top running back in the nation according to Rivals in three of the past four years.
All things being equal as it stands today, Ford will join former No.1 rated back Miles Sanders, Journey Brown and 2018's top running back prospect Ricky Slade for the 2019 season as the running backs on the Nittany Lions' roster.
Penn State started up the big weekend a bit early on Thursday night as three-star junior college safety Jaquan Brisker verbally committed as well.
