Penn State Football: Quarterback Jake Zembiec's Playing Career Comes To Close
Junior quarterback Jake Zembiec announced on Twitter early Tuesday evening that his career at Penn State, as a student-athlete, has come to a close.
"I am extremely saddened to announce that I have accepted a medical scholarship due to an ongoing injury," He said in his statement. Zembiec had yet to take a snap while at Penn State over the past two years but nevertheless had been hobbled by injuries throughout his career.
The Rochester, NY native enrolled at Penn State for the 2016 season after committing to Penn State and receiving an invitation to the Elite 11 quarterback camp.
From a logistics standpoint Zembiec's departure is not an immediate blow to Penn State's quarterback depth. With Trace McSorley holding the starting job and Tommy Stevens right behind him, a complete catastrophe would see the Nittany Lions turn to Sean Clifford at the third-string spot with Will Levis and Michael Shuster behind him.
Down the road in a post McSorley era, multiple quarterbacks are currently committed to future classes.
