Penn State will start the 2018 football season sitting at No. 10 in the AP Poll. The preseason ranking was released on Monday morning. Penn State is ranked No. 9 in the Coaches Poll released a few weeks ago.
The Nittany Lions finished the 2017-18 season ranked eighth in the nation after beating Washington in the Fiesta Bowl. The Huskies were ranked 13th in the same poll heading into the game, falling to No. 16 following the loss, but open the season at the No. 6 spot.
Penn State was one of three Big Ten team to finish the year in the top 10 with Wisconsin and Ohio State coming in sixth and fifth respectively at the season's end. Penn State opened last season ranked sixth and made it to as high as No. 2 before falling to Ohio State in Columbus.
The Nittany Lions are one of three Big Ten teams in the top 10, with Ohio State coming in at No. 5 and Wisconsin at No. 4. Michigan State (11) and Michigan (14) also inside the Top 25. Penn State plays all four ranked Big Ten teams.
Former offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead will start out his new tenure as the Mississippi State head coach with the Bulldogs ranked at No. 18.
