A local tradition will continue on Dec. 2 when the 35th Annual Nittany Valley Half-Marathon steps off near Beaver Stadium.
All proceeds from the race benefit Centre Volunteers in Medicine, which serves and advocates for the the medically-underserved in Centre County. More than $50,000 has been raised for CVIM through the race, and for every dollar raised, CVIM provides $3.09 in services.
“We have three objectives, all centered around community” said Katrina D’Anca, NVHM race director. “One, we want serve our community by raising the most amount of money for CVIM’s services. Last year, was a record donation and this year we are doubling-down on our goal. Second, we are partnering with more local owned business to help growth in the business community. Finally, we want to make the race a memorable one for our running community. That is what traditions are made of”.
The 13.1-mile race begins at the corner of Fox Hollow Road and Park Avenue and winds through Benner, Patton and College Townships, before finishing at the Centre County Convention & Visitors Bureau center.
Some of the race features will include more than $1000 in prizes and gift card awards, four water stops and an early course start for walkers. Several awards are given including for oldest and youngest, Average Joe and Average Jane -- the exact middle-of-the-pack finishers -- and a Hill Challenge Jacket, inviting people to run faster at the right time. The first 500 entrants will receive running buffs.
Walkers will begin at 9 a.m. with the run at 10 a.m. Race planners have added snapchat filters, music and cheering sections along the course. After the race, participants, supporters and volunteers can pick up awards, food and chocolate milk inside the Snider Ag Arena and a post-race awards celebration will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Bill Pickles Taproom.
Registration is $45 until Nov. 29 when it goes up to $50 through race day. For an additional $10, participants can receive a custom finisher's medal.
