ROCKVIEW STATE POLICE

Police charged Joseph Gate, 20, of Howard, with an alleged alcohol-related DUI after he crashed his vehicle on Bullit Run Road in Howard Township on May 4 at 5:25 a.m. Police said he was traveling southeast when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. Gates then drove off the roadway and struck two trees before overturning. Police report that Gates suffered minor injuries but was able to free himself from the vehicle.

Officers responded to SCI Benner on May 19 after a visitor was found to be in possession of alleged drug paraphernalia in their vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are looking for information after a multi-colored wallet with $50 in it was stolen from a vehicle on Lingle Valley Road in Penn Township overnight May 22 to 23. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (814) 355-7545.

Police are investigating after receiving a report that a juvenile threw a rock at a vehicle causing $100 worth of damage on Penns Valley Road in Haines Township on May 23.

A semi-truck driven by Stephen Beiler, of Elizabethtown, left the roadway and fell into a ditch while traveling on Middle Road in Haines Township on May 23, according to police. A heavy duty wrecker was requested and responded to the scene. The cargo was not damaged in the crash.

On May 25, police responded after they received a report that a male allegedly trespassed by entering a residence on Benner Pike in Benner Township. The man promptly left the residence of the occupant and he was encountered by state police while walking down Benner Pike toward Bellefonte. Police said prosecution was declined by the victim due to the mental health status of the man.

A driver and a passenger were not injured after they crashed into a deer while driving along I-99 in Patton Township on May 25. The vehicle was damaged and towed from the scene.

Police said that Jack Vandevort, 21, of Port Matilda, was driving along Eagle Valley Road in Huston Township on May 26 when he swerved, crossed the road and struck a tree before coming to rest in a ditch. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. He did not contact police and left the scene. A passerby contacted police and reported the disabled vehicle. Vandevort was contacted by police later and issued several traffic citations.

Police cited Christopher Jones, of State College, with careless driving after he struck a vehicle that had slowed down in front of him on Eagle Valley Road in Boggs Township on May 30. Jones was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for a minor injury. The other driver was uninjured.

On June 2, Zhen Ruan, of East Meadow, N.Y., was driving east on I-80 in Snow Shoe Township when police said his vehicle left the north side of the roadway, traveled approximately 500 feet across the medium, continued traveling across the west bound lane and crashed into a guiderail. Ruan was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center by Snow Show Ambulance and Rescue for an unknown injury. He was cited for driving on roadways not laned for traffic. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
