The Beatles never made it to Bellefonte back in the 1960s.
The original Beatlemania, with mop tops and crowds of screaming teenage girls that followed the Fab Four’s every move, may be long gone, but The Cast of Beatlemania will bring us a taste when they play at Talleyrand Park on Sunday.
The Cast of Beatlemania, a longtime Centre County favorite that has performed in the park in downtown State College and on Old Main Lawn many times in the past, will play after the third annual Summer Craft Beverage Expo and it is free and open for all to attend. The show will start at 7 p.m.
Last summer, the group played at The State Theatre to a crowd that loved hearing the timeless hits.
The Cast of Beatlemania is a U.S. Beatles’ tribute band formed in 1980. The Cast is one of the longest-running Beatles’ tribute bands in the world. The group currently features Lenie Colacino, a former cast member of the 1977 Broadway musical, “Beatlemania.”
The band recaptures the sound, look and feel from the biggest band of the 1960s and takes the crowd through the different phases of Beatlemania.
Beatlemania’s show will be part of the Summer Sounds from the Gazebo concert series sponsored by the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association.
Committee chair JoAnn Knupp said earlier this year that the concerts have been a Bellefonte staple for 30 years and The Cast of Beatlemania is one of the biggest draws they have ever tried to get. Community support made the show possible.
Concerts in the Park run from the second Sunday in June to the second Sunday in August at 7 p.m. The series features different acts each week. Knupp said the park atmosphere is perfect for families. There are many benches and picnic tables along with ample lawn space for blankets and dancing.
In case of rain, the concert would be held at St. John Lutheran Church.
