Centre County Reports 92 New COVID-19 Cases

Centre County added 92 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing its total to 1,600 since the first was reported on March 20.

The county also had 546 new negative test results, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. A total of 22,025 patients in Centre County have tested negative for the virus.

According to DOH data, Centre County has one COVID-19 hospitalization, down from two on Wednesday.

All 92 cases on Thursday were confirmed.

In the past two weeks, Centre County has added 1,022 new cases, the vast majority in the State College and University Park zip codes. On Tuesday, Penn State reported 458 new student cases resulting from testing over the weekend and test results that previously had been pending from the week of Sept. 4-10.

Statewide, the health department reported 933 new positives increasing Pennsylvania's total to 147,923.

There were 13,144 new negative test results statewide. A total of 1,721,275 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.

An estimated 82% of COVID-19 patients in the state — about 121,297 — have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Across Pennsylvania, 459 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 54 requiring use of a ventilator.

The health department reported 10 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the state's total at 7,913. DOH has reported 11 total COVID-19 deaths for Centre County, the most recent on Aug. 14. The coroner's office has confirmed only seven, ranging in age from 74 to 96.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.

Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:

  • Approximately 1% are ages 0-4;
  • Nearly 2% are ages 5-12;
  • Approximately 4% are ages 13-18;
  • Approximately 12% are ages 19-24; 
  • Approximately 36% are ages 25-49; 
  • Nearly 22% are ages 50-64; and
  • Approximately 22% are ages 65 or older.

Among Pennsylvania's total cases, 143,552 are confirmed and 4,371 are probable. In Centre County, 1,542 are confirmed and 58 are probable.

Among Centre County's bordering counties, Blair now has 540 [+3] total cases, Union has 448 [+10], Huntingdon has 393, Clearfield has 293 [+1], Mifflin has 207 [+7] and Clinton has 185 [+9].
