Centre County Adds 50 New COVID-19 Cases

Centre County reported 50 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday to bring its total to 3,614 since the first was confirmed in March.

The county also had 329 new negative test results, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. A total of 32,748 patients in the county have tested negative for the virus.

According to DOH data, Centre County has nine COVID-19 hospitalizations, an increase of two since Wednesday.

DOH has reported a total of 14 deaths attributed to the virus for Centre County. The coroner's office has confirmed 11, the most recent on Wednesday, a 93-year-old man who died on Oct. 10 at a long-term care facility in the 16853 zip code. COVID deaths confirmed by the coroner's office range in age from 74 to 101.

Statewide, the health department reported 1,598 new positives, increasing Pennsylvania's total to there were 177,520. Thursday's numbers include increases of 163 in Philadelphia, 135 in Westmoreland County and 117 in Allegheny County. 

It was the 10th consecutive day the state recorded more than 1,000 new cases, and on Wednesday Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said Pennsylvania is at the start of a "fall resurgence" of the virus.

“While we are working to expand testing, prepare for a vaccine and prevent outbreaks, Pennsylvanians have an important role to play," Levine said in a statement. "We must be united by wearing a mask, washing our hands, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings, downloading the COVID Alert PA mobile app and getting a flu vaccine.”

There were 14,468 new negative test results statewide on Thursday. A total of 2,089,197 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.

An estimated 80% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation. 

Across Pennsylvania, 799 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 94 requiring use of a ventilator.

The health department reported 21 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, bringing the Pennsylvania's total at 8,432.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.

Among Pennsylvania's total cases, 170,794 are confirmed and 6,726 are probable. In Centre County, 3,526 are confirmed and 88 are probable.

One new positives were reported among employees of Centre County nursing and personal care homes, which have had a combined total of 60 resident cases and 36 employee cases across 11 facilities.

Among Centre County's bordering counties, Blair now has 950 [+24] total cases, Union has 637 [+18], Huntingdon has 623 [+19], Clearfield has 380 [+4], Mifflin has 292 [+3] and Clinton has 233 [+2].
