Three Centre County high school boys’ soccer teams made the playoffs this season, with Bellefonte and State College taking home district championships.

BELLEFONTE

The Red Raiders met Tyrone in Bald Eagle Area’s stadium Oct. 30 for the District 6 championships.

At half time, the game was locked at 1-1. Dan Persiko scored Bellefonte’s goal.

In the second half, the pressure of do-or-die was heavy on both teams. Luckily for Bellefonte, it wasn’t too heavy, as Gabe Koller found

Evan Nyquist with a pass that Nyquist put in the back of the net.

Bellefonte defeated Tyrone, 2-1, to become the 2018 District VI champs.

STATE COLLEGE

On Oct. 29 the Little Lions traveled to DeGol Field in Loretto for the first game of their postseason. Altoona stood in their way of a District 6 AAAA championship.

State High had already beaten Altoona twice during the season coming into the game.

When the final whistle blew, the Maroon and Grey had scored five goals, defeating Altoona 5-1 to become District VI AAAA champions.

Goals were scored by Daniel Bennet, Ben Krantweiss, Ben Stefanovich, Marc Rodgers and Grady Ballard.

PENNS VALLEY

The Rams met Huntingdon for the third time this season Oct. 25 for each team's first-round playoff game.

During the regular season, neither time these teams met found them settling their difference in regulation. Huntingdon ended up winning both regular season games in double overtime — each with a 2-1 score.

It took even longer for the District 6 AA quarterfinal match. With the game scoreless even after two overtime periods, the game went to penalty kicks.

Michael Statham, Alex Gretok and Zach Limbaugh scored their penalty kicks for the Rams, but the Huntingdon Bearcats took the shootout and the game, 4-3.
