Henrie competes in 2018 Junior World Championships

IVREA, Italy — For the second straight year, Alden Henrie, of Snow Shoe, participated in the World Junior Slalom Championships held in Ivrea, Italy, placing 35th.

His score of 104.9 seconds included only a single gate touch on the 20-gate course. It was an improvement over his performance last year at the junior worlds in Bratislava, Slovakia, where he finished in 37th place, but had a score of 190 seconds and 60 penalties.

His singles canoe teammates were a pair of 15-year-olds from Bethesda, Md. Kaelin Friedenson finished in 32nd place with a score of 102.9 seconds, while Nathaniel Francis finished in 45th place, scoring 123.3 seconds.

The gold medalist in the C-1 event was Miquel Trave, of Spain. Flavio Micozzi, of Italy, took second place, while Nicolas Gestin, of France, finished in third.

Henrie and his teammates competed well in the three-boat team race, finishing in 11th place out of the 50 countries competing. Their score was 129.88 seconds in a competition during which each boat's gate penalties are added to the team's time for the final score. The sum of the team's penalties was only four seconds.

Medal positions in the C-1 team event went to France in first, with 97.6 seconds, the Czech Republic in second, with 103.7 seconds, and Slovenia in third, with 105.9 seconds.
