We’re already nearing the end of the District 5 Pennsylvania Little League tournaments. The victors of each of the three tournament levels will be crowned by this time next week and will move on to their respective Section 4 tournaments.

Let’s take a look at the results from this past week.

MAJOR DIVISION

Upper bracket
On June 28, Philipsburg-Osceola hosted Bald Eagle Area while Big Valley visited Bellefonte.
BEA defeated P-O, 6-2, and advanced as the host team in the upper bracket finals. Bellefonte routed Big Valley, 9-0, to move forward with BEA. The game between these two teams was scheduled for July 2, but was postponed one day due to weather.
The Centre County Gazette went to press before BEA and Bellefonte played, though the winner will advance to play the final team standing in the lower bracket Saturday, July 7.

Lower bracket

P-O and Big Valley both had an opportunity to keep their seasons going in the lower bracket. P-O took advantage, defeating Clearfield 7-5, while Big Valley fell in a 6-3 game to State College.
State College and P-O battled it out on the third for a chance to play the loser between Bellefonte and BEA on July 5. The final team standing of these four will advance to the District 5 Major Tournament finals.

MINOR 11 DIVISION

Philipsburg-Osceola overcame Big Valley in the upper bracket on June 30, 9-6, to advance to the Minor 11 Division finals.

After falling to P-O, Big Valley was scheduled to host State College in the lower bracket June 2, with the opportunity to get revenge on the Mounties in the division finals with a win.

They did exactly that, shutting out State College, 3-0. The first championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at P-O.

Per double elimination rules, Big Valley will have to win two games in a row against the currently undefeated Mounties in order to win the tournament, while P-O only has to take one of two.

MINOR 10 DIVISION

Upper bracket

The third round of Minor 10 Division upper bracket play started June 29 with P-O cruising past BEA 7-1 and State College stomping Penns Valley, 12-0.

P-O and State College played for an undefeated run heading into the finals July 3, after CCG press time.

The tournament finals are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 8.

Lower bracket

While the upper bracket started its third round, the lower bracket started its second with Four Leaf taking Clearfield out of contention with a score of 12-8 on June 29. That same day, Big Valley put up the highest score of the tournament, smashing Bellefonte 20-0.
Big Valley used up almost all of its offense against Bellefonte as they fell to Penns Valley to start the new month, 5-2. Also on July 1, Four Leaf put up another double-digit performance, walking by BEA 17-7.
On July 3, Four Leaf hosted Penns Valley. The winner moves onto the loser of the State College and P-O matchup, with the game scheduled for Friday, July 6.
