Spring Mills powerlifters bring home several championships

BIGLER — The TransFitness powerlifting team, of Spring Mills, performed well in the last two powerlifting meets that were held in Bigler. Everyone on the team won first place at the Central PA Open Powerlifting Meet that was held last year on December 15. Caroline Witter, lifted in the 114-pound class, bench pressed 104.5 pounds and won first place. Ruth Snyder lifted in the 105 pound class, benched 115.7 pounds, won first place and set a state record in the open and 55-59 age group. 

Tom Weaver lifted in the 198 pound class and benched 303.6 pounds, winning his weight class and he set a national record in the handicap division. Hope Weaver lifted in the 114 pound class. She squatted 132 pounds, benched 110 pounds and deadlifted 225.5 pounds for a total of 467.5 pounds. She set a national record in the bench in the 16-17 age group and she won Outstanding Female Lifter of the competition.

At the Power Day Meet held on March 16, the team had another good day.

Witter lifted in the 114 pound class and she benched 115.7 pounds, winning first place won 1st place. She also set a state record in the open division. Hope Weaver lifted in the 114 pound class and benched 104.5 pounds. She won second place and set a state record in the 16-17 age division.

Snyder lifted in the 105 pound class and benched 115.7 pounds. She won first place. Tom Weaver lifted in the 198 pound class, benched 308 pounds and won third place. He also broke his national record in the handicap division.

All the TransFitness powerlifting team members train with and are coached by Steve Snyder. Steve and Ruth Snyder are both personal trainers and train clients of all ages and abilities.  Steve’s first powerlifting meet was in 1977 and Ruth’s was in 1981. Both hold world and national titles and own TransFitness Personal Training, Spring Mills.
