MECHANICSBURG — State College goalkeepers turned away 17 shots but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Little Lions dropped a 6-0 decision at Cumberland Valley in girls’ high school field hockey on Monday, Sept. 30. State College slipped to 4-7. Madeline Geduldig made 12 saves in the Mid Penn Commonwealth contest, while Molly Schreiner stopped five shots. Cumberland Valley scored three times in each half. Alyssa Hoffman started things off, driving home a shot after taking a pass from Lyndsey Olzacki, then Ami Mattingly followed off a Cassie McKenzie assist. McKenzie recorded another assist on K.K. Sauve’s tally. After the intermission, Sauve assisted on Jayme Baker’s goal before scoring herself on Olzacki’s second assist of the game. McKenzie’s third assist resulted in Baker’s second goal with 1:19 remaining. The junior varsity contest resulted in a scoreless tie. It was the second straight match in which the Lady Little Lions were shut out. On Monday, Sept. 16, Anna Smith converted on Maggie Conklin’s pass from a corner for the only scoring in State College’s 1-0 setback to Cedar Cliff at the North Turf Field. State College’s Bayla Furmanek made seven saves, while Cedar Cliff goalkeeper Kira Giorham had two. Neither team scored in the junior varsity game.
