Cell Phone Helps Emergency Crews Find Injured Man
Some people think a cell phone can be a major distraction, but one man is thankful for the device because it saved his life.It all began when the man crasheed his car into a utility pole near Osborne Street and Central Avenue in Johnstown Wednesday night. He decided to walk home from the accident when he slipped and plunged 30 feet along the river's edge near the Johnstown poster building, knocking himself out for six hours. When the man became alert, he called Cambria County 911. He was unable to explain where he was, so dispatchers were able to pinpoint his exact location. This system can work even if you are in a moving car. It doesn't work all of the time. In remote areas where there aren't a lot of cell phone towers, the system often fails.
