CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. -- Thursday, a bill that will make changes to the state's dog laws was on Gov. Ed Rendell's desk and ready for him to sign. It's expected to stop inhumane practices at kennels around the state, making sure the dog you take home is healthy and in the best condition possible. There has been a lot of attention on puppy mills lately, especially in Amish communities where there have been several raids by state officials and the ASPCA.Rendell is expected to sign the bill, which will force dog farms and other kennels to provide roomier cages, more exercise for the dogs, regular vet checkups and overall better conditions. There will also be rules on how often a mother can breed.
