Pittsburgh Native Faces Off Against Hometown Team

Friday, May 9, 2008 – updated: 8:30 pm EDT May 9, 2008

Flyers Center R.J. Umberger was born a Penguins fan, growing up in Plum Borough, just 15 miles outside in Pittsburgh.

Umberger is no stranger to the cross-state rivalry. He was a Pittsburgh fan when he watched the Flyers knock the Pens out of the 2000 playoffs and now he's trying to make sure that happens again.

Umberger is on a hot streak right now, leading the Flyers with nine playoff goals and six goals against the Pens in the regular season.

Umberger's parents are getting use to cheering against their hometown team and they couldn't be happy their son is playing so well.

Rick Umberger said, "When we go to work we can rub it in. Last year we took a beating from everyone at work, so now it's our turn to gloat."

"We'll sit on the edge of our seats because we're torn; we're Penguin fans, but we're Flyer fans too, so it's going to be a nail-biter," says Roseanne Umberger.
