Registered Sex Offender Found To Live Near Summer Camp

Wednesday, May 7, 2008 – updated: 11:43 pm EDT May 7, 2008

Dennis Davis of Jenner Township, Somerset County is accused of raping a female bartender from Westmoreland County at Beams Rocks. However, Channel 6 News has learned, his past goes much deeper. Police are also charging Davis with attempting to assault a woman two years ago in Jenner Township. Police said that woman got away.

Channel 6 News also found Davis on the Megan's Law Web site for a past sex abuse conviction.

After learning Davis' past history, Channel 6 stopped by the house listed as his address on the Web site and found that it was located directly across from Summers Best Two Weeks children's camp.

"I've known about his record all along and it's always bothered me," said Linda Biery with the camp. "When you are dealing with sex offenders it's very likely that they will do it again."

About 2,000 kids comes to the camp every summer and stay in cabins with no locks on them. That has camp directors even more nervous.

"We have counselors who run on the roads early in the morning," said Biery. "I'm always worried about it. I think there should be a law prohibiting someone on that list from living near the camp, just like there's protection for schools."

The founder of the camp said he has been making several phone calls to keep Davis from coming back to the house if he's released from jail. Camp officials said they are hopeful some type of action will be taken.
