UPDATE: Police Investigate Scuffle At House Party

Monday, July 21, 2008 – updated: 10:40 pm EDT July 23, 2008

State police in Hollidaysburg said they are bringing in an out-of-county officer to investigate a disturbance that happened last week.

The incident happened at the home of a prominent defense attorney in Blair County on Wednesday.

State police said a party got a little out of hand at the home of attorney Thomas Dickey in Frankstown Township. It ended when a local officer had to be taken to the hospital after he was hit over the head with a beer bottle.

According to police, three off-duty policemen from local departments were involved in the scuffle. They did not say if other party-goers were involved, but a Bedford County officer is investigating. Police said the officer will interview all of the people who were at the party when the fight broke out, including county attorneys, local judges and other members of law enforcement.

On Wednesday, police said the officer from Bedford will work with the Blair County district attorney to see if any criminal charges should be filed.

Officials said because there were two assistant district attorneys at the party, the D.A. may ask an out-of-county district attorney to handle the case.

No one has been arrested so far in connection with the disturbance.

One Logan Township officer was involved in the fight. The police chief said he's never had to deal with anything like this. However, if criminal charges are filed against his officer, he may have to suspend him.
