Memorial Day Celebration
Boalsburg lays claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day with observances dating back to 1864. At that time Emma Hunter, Sophie Keller, and Elizabeth Meyer paid tribute to loved ones lost in the Civil War by placing flowers on their graves. Now Boalsburg gets ready for its 145th observance with several fun and reflective activities on Memorial Day.
There will be a variety of activities going on in Boalsburg this weekend including a Carnival, Parade and Cemetatry Service; as well as American and German WWII reenactors on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum portraying field life in the European Theater of Operations, 1944-45.
