Strawberry Festival

The 30th Annual Strawberry Festival, benefiting the Granary Project of the Lemont Village Association, will bethis Saturday from 4:00-8:00 pm. The festival will feature fresh strawberries, home made cakes, ice cream, strawberry smoothies, music and children's activities. (more info)

Read It, Watch it 2011

It's back! The State Theatre is excited to announce the return of the free Read It, Watch It Summer Series, presented in cooperation with The Schlow Library Summer Reading Program. This year's series will run for eight weeks and feature a variety of classic and new children's films. Local charities will be featured each week and donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items will be collected every week. Starts next Wednesday with Stuart Little. (more info)

School Board Tax Plan: Three residents addressed the State College Area school board Monday evening in what turned out to be a 27-minute budget hearing. (read)

PSU Games: Alabama will be playing in Happy Valley for the first time since 1989 when it visits Sept. 10 for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. ABC will televise the game to a national audience. (read)

Discovery Space FundingBorough Council reduced its tentative grant to the Discovery Space children's museum to a one-time donation of $50,000. (read)

The State College Elks Lodge and local veterans organizations will sponsor a joint Flag Day Service and U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony on the grounds of the 28th Division Shrine in Boalsburg. The public is encouraged to bring their unserviceable American Flags for the proper disposal. Free Admission 6:00 p.m. (more info)
