Happy Father's Day
This Sunday is Father's Day. It is a day of
commemoration and celebration of Dad. It is a day to not only honor your
father, but all men who have acted as a father figure in your life -
whether as stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, or "big brothers." We here at StateCollege.com have put together some things happening around the area that might interest you and Dad. You could even win a $50 gift certificate to Zola. Just make sure he gets

Spikes Opening Day
The Spikes will open their 38-game summer home schedule this Sunday with a bevy of pre-game activities, special events and great promotions for the entire family! Fans can enjoy a spectacular fireworks show immediately following the 6:05 pm game. The first 3000 fans get a Schedule Magnet and all kids can run the bases after the game! Gates open at 3:30 pm. Summer Solstice Celebration
Enjoy a “local” celebration of farms, food and art at Tait Farm this Saturday from 1-4 pm. Festivities will include food and beverage sampling from: Elk Creek Café + Aleworks, Harrison’s Wine Grill & Catering, Otto’s Pub & Brewery, Mount Nittany Winery and Tait Farm Foods. Enjoy hands-on art activities, a farmers market and hayrides to observe Farmland Preservation Artists painting on-site around the farm. Free event. (more info)

Welch Statue: The statue to the late Mayor William Welch at the municipal plaza named
in his honor is scheduled to be dedicated on Saturday, Oct. 1. (read)
Bolden Returns: Sophomore quarterback Rob Bolden, whose Penn State future had been
uncertain, will work out with his Nittany Lion teammates before
pre-season practice, a spokesman confirmed.
Dispatch: The popular rock, folk and reggae band with Vermont roots, will play Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center at 7 p.m. Aug. 28.
Dress Code: Students returning to State College Area High School for the 2011-2012
school year will find a toughened set of dress-code standards.
The streets of Bellefonte will be open Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 pm
for the public to cruise like people used to do. After that, a sock hop
will be held on the diamond from 8:00 to 11:00 pm. On Saturday, stop
downtown for the car, truck and motorcycle show. (more info)

Region Parks and Recreation hook up to host this annual festival this Saturday! Locals
and friends are invited to enjoy live music, food concessions and
