Obituary of Thomas H 'Tom' Gilmore, 78


Thomas H. “Tom” Gilmore, 78, of Centre Hall, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 19, 1941, he was the son of the late Oscar and Mary Barner Gilmore. On June 26, 1960, at the Tusseyville United Church of Christ, he married Jean I. Tate, who survives at home.

Tom was a 1959 graduate of Penns Valley High School. He was enlisted with the US Air Force during the Vietnam War where he earned the rank of Airman Second Class. He worked for Galen Dreibelbis of Nittany Farms as a Crop and Livestock Manager up until retirement. Following retirement, he worked on the maintenance crew for the Grange Fair.

Tom was of the Protestant faith. He loved and cherished his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his wife used to show percheron draft horses in halter and driving. He was very passionate about restoring and showing antique tractors. He showed tractors locally, but also traveled to Michigan and other various areas to show his tractors as well. He was an active member of the Antique Tractor Association.

Along with his wife Jean, Tom is survived by; one daughter, Sherri L. Bruss of Boalsburg, two grandchildren; Thomas A. Bruss and his wife, Shannon, of Blanchard, and Jessi Bruss and her fiancé, Martin Rodriguez, of Dimmitt, TX, and eight great grandchildren; Hailey Bruss, Gracie Bruss, Patti Bruss, Jack Bruss, Josiah Rodriguez, Martin Rodriguez, Noah Rodriguez, and Averee Rodriguez. Also surviving are his two sisters; Mary Katherine Parks of McElhattan and Charolette Fetteroff of Madisonburg.

Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by one son, Brady E. Gilmore, who passed away on October 12, 2011, one brother, Robert Gilmore, and three sisters; Grace Brungart, Sarah Swadsworth, and Polly Ungard.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 6-8pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Centre Hall. Private burial with full military honors will be at the Mountain Cemetery in Spring Mills with Pastor K.R. Mele officiating.
