Obituary of Alton Nevling, 69
Alton “Pete” Nevling, 69, of Bellefonte, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, A son of the late Lawrence Brown and Freda (Cowher) Nevling, Pete was born on January 25, 1943, in Altoona. On September 20, 1975 he married Bonnie (Dann) Nevling, at St John Lutheran Church in Bellefonte.
He was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School. He served in the U.S. Army from November 17, 1965 until his honorable discharge on November 15, 1968. He served during the Vietnam Era as an MP with the Company A 716th Military Police in Saigon as a Spec 5. He was an expert marksman. Pete joined the Bellefonte Police Department in May 1971 and he retired from there in January 1997.
Pete was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #1600. He served as Post Commander from 1994-1995 and the District 22 Commander from 2001-2002. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #33, serving as Post Commander from 1995-1996, and Bi-County Commander of District 23 and currently as District 23 Deputy Commander. He also served on various committees. He was a life member of the Undine Fire Company #2, a charter member of the Bellefonte A.E.I.R.E. #4320, member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks # 1094, and member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #51.
Along with Bonnie, his wife of 36 years, Pete is survived by his children; Tiffany J. Uncapher Jones of Beverly Hills, Fla, R. Scott Uncapher and his wife Sonia Michele Veruete-Uncapher of Howard and his adopted son, Michael Nevling of Westover. He is survived by three sisters; Belva Jane Walk, Ruby Louella Woodring, and Leah Cynthia Smith. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Whitley and Allisun Korman of Florida, Nicholas, Noah and Ian Uncapher of Howard, and Jestina Nevling of Chicago, IL. He also leaves behind his beloved dog “Skylar”.

. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Wetzler Funeral Service Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, PA 16823, from 1-4 pm. The funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 pm, at the funeral home with Pastor Todd Templeton officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Port Matilda.
