Obituary of Arthur Workman Jr., 91


Arthur Workman Jr., 91, of Howard, passed away on Friday November 22, 2019 at his home in Howard. He was born in Grugan Township, Clinton County on October 1, 1928 a son of the late Arthur McKinley and Goldia Grace (Merrill) Workman.

He married the love of his life Iris G. Strunk on December 31, 1954 in Howard. They were married 44 years when she preceded him in death on June 26, 1999.

He joined the Army Air Corp at the age of 17 and proudly served his country in the Phillipines during WWII. After his first deployment he re-enlisted and then served in Germany. He received an Honorable Discharge at the end of his service.

After returning home, he was employed by Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, where he worked for 32 years. After Piper Aircraft shut down he went to work as a courier for Core States Bank where he retired from, after 10 years of service.

He was the owner of the Little Eagleton Rod and Gun Club for 60 years, he belonged to the Beech Creek American Legion, Howard VFW, Lock Haven 40 and 8 and the Castanea Fire Hall.

He was an avid history buff and he had a terrific wit and entertained all who knew him with his stories.

He is survived by two daughters, Bethany (Michael) Lowery of Zion and Holly (Bill) Young of Beech Creek, also two sons, Mark Workman of Howard and Timothy (Heather Longley) Workman of Phillipsburg, a brother, Theodore Workman of Lock Haven, two sisters, Shirley Strunk of Howard, and Jean Rafter of Lock Haven, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Along with his wife he was preceded by his brothers, Styles B. Merrill, William, Richard, and Wayne Workman, and three sisters, Reba Strunk, Betty Rupert, and Marjorie Egan.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 5: 00 p.m. at Kader-Neff Funeral Home, Howard with his nephew Pastor Casey Strunk officiating . Friends will be received at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be Monday November 25th at 9:00 a.m. at Schenck's Cemetery, Howard with military honors.
