Obituary of George M. Rhule , 86

George M. Rhule, 86, of State College, died on Saturday, September 18, 2010.

He was born in Altoona on July 13, 1924, the son of the late George M. Rhule Jr. and Kathleen Simpson Rhule, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Kenny.

George was a graduate of Port Matilda High School. He was awarded the Purple Heart when he served in Germany in the United States Army in WW II. He retired in 1979 from the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for over 30 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Hilda (Reese) Rhule; his sister, Louise Corbin, of Tyrone, and four children: Denny Rhule and his wife, Gloria, of State College; Kathy Obermeier and her husband, Dave, of Pittsburgh; Karen Noel and her husband, Ken, of State College, and Jim Rhule and his wife, Pat, of Houston, TX. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

George was a founding member of the State College Federal Credit Union. He was a member of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene for over 40 years where he served in numerous leadership roles. He was an avid hunter, gardener and sports enthusiast. He will be remembered for his deep faith in God and his love for his family.

Friends will be received at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Home at 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010. A celebration of George's life will be held at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 3601 S. Atherton Street, State College, PA on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
