Obituary of Helen Jabco


Helen B. Jabco of Bellefonte passed away on July 17, 2018. Born in Bellefonte, PA March 15, 1932 to immigrant parents Michael Brosky (Borowsky) and Paulina Starbin (Szczerbin) Brosky from Galicia, Austria-Hungary.

Helen attended Saint John the Evangelist Catholic School and graduated from Bellefonte High School. She was active in the Catholic Daughters of America Court Patrick McArdle #448, a volunteer in her church and at Saint John’s School. She sang in the church adult choir and for many years with the Bellefonte Victorian Chorus. She was active with cub scouts and girl scouts. She was awarded the “1999 Distinguished Graduate Award” from Saint John’s Catholic School. She retired from Penn State University.

On July 17, 1954, Helen became the wife of Paul D. Jabco at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte. They eventually built their own home and were blessed with two children. She is survived by husband Paul, of Bellefonte and children Jeannine J. Weiser and spouse John of Harrisburg, PA, and Jeffrey P. Jabco and partner Joseph Henderson of Swarthmore, PA. There are two step-grandsons: John Weiser III (wife Angela) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Neil Weiser (wife Sara) of Camp Hill, PA, and three great-granddaughters, Audrey, Eleanor and Vera.

She was preceded in death by six siblings: Mary Fetters, Catherine Caponi, John Brosky, George Brosky, Frank Brosky and Anna Mae Lambert. Surviving is a sister Theresa Sager of Arizona, and six nieces and five nephews.

Helen’s pride and joy were her husband and children, her home and working in her garden, sewing and interior decorating, and her love of art and classical music.

There will be a public viewing held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 6-8pm at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. A Catholic Daughter Service and the Christian wake service will immediately follow at 8pm at the funeral home with Deacon Thomas Boldin officiating.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:30 am at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 134 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte with Father George Jakopac officiating. Burial will follow in Saint John’s Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society at 1375 Martin Street #206, State College, PA 16803, Hospice 365 at 220 Regent Court, State College, PA 16801 or to the Saint John’s School Angel Fund at 116 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
