Obituary of Honora 'Honey' Jaffe, 76


Honora F. "Honey" Jaffe, 76, of State College, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at home.

Born July 31, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Marian Mondshein Aronow. On February 12, 1967 she married William A. "Bill" Jaffe, who survives.

Also surviving are two children, Robin Jaffe Goebel and her husband, Christopher, of Annapolis, MD and Matthew H. Jaffe and his wife, Kelly Perez, of Denver, CO; a sister, Abbie Innis of Traverse City, MI; and three grandchildren, Samuel I. and Azen M. Jaffe and Malcolm R. Goebel.

Honora was a 1959 graduate of Coral Gables High School. She received a bachelor's degree in Art in 1964 from the University of Miami. In 2009, she was named an honorary alumni of Penn State University.

She was a member of Congregation Brit Shalom and State College Hadassah.

She was also a member of the Centre County Historical Society, where she served as a docent and chair of the initial holiday art & crafts show. In addition, she served for two terms on the Community Advisory Board of the Center for the Performing Arts and later served for six years on the Friends of the Palmer Museum of Art Community Advisory Board.

Honey had a strong interest in the graphic arts, art glass, and the performing arts; was an avid reader who helped form two book clubs; and spent long hours developing her own art and crafts projects. In 2008 she was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Center for Performing Arts at Penn State.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Congregation Brit Shalom, 620 E. Hamilton Avenue, with Rabbi David Ostrich officiating. A visitation period will begin at 9:30a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Audience Development Endowment at the Center for the Performing Arts or to the Conservation Endowment at the Palmer Museum of the Art. Please send to the Penn State Development Office, 5 Old Main, University Park, PA 16802.
