Obituary of Larry A. Haagen, 72


Larry A. Haagen, 72, of Nittany, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 with his family by his side. Larry was born in Bellefonte, a son of the late Harry ‘Boots’ Haagen and Ruth (Waltz) Haagen, who survives in Nittany.

He is survived by his wife, Paula, and their children, Amy and David, both of rural Centre Hall. Also surviving is his son-in-law, Chris Evans; daughter-in-law, Amy (Fanning) Haagen; five grandsons, Adam, Chase & Gage Evans and Ethan & Landon Haagen; and his sister, Judy Seymour, of Nittany.

Larry was a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School and Williamsport Technical Institute with a certificate in welding. He served stateside in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Cerro Metals in Bellefonte for over 20 years. Larry was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the American Legion Post 33 in Bellefonte, the Millheim Fire Company, the Undine Fire Company, and the Walker Township Fire Company.

Larry was a strong person in both body and mind and he valued hard work. He could fix almost anything. He enjoyed woodworking, shooting darts, riding motorcycles, gardening, making homemade wine, the Phillies, and watching history and travel DVDs. His retirement years were spent with his children and grandchildren. He would stop at the drop of a hat to go to them and lend a helping hand. He was very proud of his five grandsons, and enjoyed babysitting and attending their baseball games. He loved to tell stories and visit with friends and old work mates.

In accordance with Larry’s wishes, funeral services will be private. The family would like to invite all those that knew Larry to join them to celebrate his life and share memories at the Brown’s Hill Tavern in Lamar on Monday, February 4th from 5 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Centre Hall Library Association, PO Box 420, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
