Mark S. Benner, 48, of Bellefonte, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 after he fought an eight yearlong battle of cancer. Mark would often say that he was “tougher than the lips of a woodpecker.” Born in Bellefonte, on December 23, 1969, he was the son of Robert “Bob” G. Benner (Bridget) and Georgia (Miller) Cox, who are all surviving at home in Bellefonte, respectively.

Mark was a 1988 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. He worked at the family business as a foreman at B&S Sheet Metal.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two brothers, Rodney Benner (Susan) of Zion, and David Benner (Laurinda) of Bellefonte, and one sister, Sara Benner (Clay) of Howard; two nephews, Tyler and Nathan Benner, and one niece, Lauren Benner; and his girlfriend, Nicole Masters of Bellefonte. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mark is also survived by his very best friend, his chocolate lab, Koltun, who accompanied him anywhere and everywhere he went.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Rick Cox; grandparents, Bob and Hazel Benner, and Leonard and Pauline Miller, and uncles, Doug and Randy Benner.

Mark had an undeniable passion for being outdoors. He especially loved camping and spending time with his vast group of friends that he made over the years.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge #206, American Legion Post 867, the Undines, VFW Post 8269, Bellefonte Elks Club #1094, Bellefonte Lions Club, and the Mosquito Creek Sportsman’s Club.
