Obituary of Stephen D 'Steve' Smitchko Sr., 89


Stephen D. “Steve” Smitchko, Sr, 89, of Clarence, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on December 22, 1928, in Clarence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Pauline Safko Smitchko. On June 20, 1950, in Grassflat, he married Pauline Brnik. Pauline passed away on March 7, 1986.

Steve was a 1947 graduate from Snow Shoe High School. He was a Supervisor at JH France Refractories in Snow Shoe, retiring after 50 years of service. He was member of the Queen of Archangels Parish Church in Clarence and a life member of the Clarence Moose Club 1565.
In his younger years, Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved going to the casinos. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working. After retiring from the Brickyard, he worked at his son’s business, Smitchko Tool & Die in Clarence.

Steve is survived by his three sons; Stephen D. Smitchko, Jr and his wife, Joyce, of Clarence, Douglas M. Smitchko and his wife, Melody, of Clarence, and Daniel J. Smitchko and his wife, Kimberly, of Morrisdale, and three daughters; Cheryl A. Keller and her husband, Thomas, of Lamar, Sandra K. Murnyack and her husband, Mick, of Clarence, and Rebecca L. Kochik and her husband, Dennis, of Troutman, NC.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Steve was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William and three sisters; Louella Jones, Evelyn Bowmaster, and Mary Barber, and his longtime companion, Margie Stover. Steve was the last of his generation.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8pm with a Moose Memorial service at 7:40pm and a Rosary service at 7:45pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2015 at 11am at Queen of Archangels Parish Church, 102 Church St. Clarence with Father Michael Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarence.
