Obituary of Tillie I. Orndorf , 87

Tillie I. Orndorf, 87, of Woodward, and recently of Salem Hill Haven and Rolling Hills Homes, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Lewisburg Hospital.

Born March 12, 1922, in Woodward, she was a daughter of the late Homer R. Bowersox and Mary A. (Guisewhite) Bowersox. On Sept. 1, 1943, she married Kenneth M. Orndorf, who died Jan. 14, 2004.

She was a 1940 graduate of East Penns Valley High School. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Millheim. She was employed at Woodward Inn, Mifflinburg Throwing Mill, Millheim Hosiery Mill, and retired from Laurelton State School and Hospital, where she worked as a personal care aide.

Tillie enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Maggie. She enjoyed cooking, cross stitching, making soup for her ill friends and giving Christmas cookies to shut-ins. She volunteered for the Woodward Community, POSA, Woodward Cemetery, Haines Township Dutch Fall Festival, The Lions Club, and Aaronsburg Library. Tillie loved to play the organ at home and at Trinity United Methodist Church in Woodward.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah K. (Paul L.) Swartz, of Woodward; one granddaughter, Fonda K. Swartz, of Woodward; a niece, Charlotte Lamey, of N.C., whom Ken and Tillie helped raise; one sister, Betty M. (Fred) Mensch, of Millheim; and one brother, Myron Lee Bowersox (Esther), of Pleasant Gap. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Nevin Bowersox.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at 2 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Millheim with Rev. LeRoy E.P. Reitz officiating. Burial will be in Woodward Cemetery.
