State High Debate

Build New Vs. Renovate Old

On April 11, 2005, the State College Area School District reviewed a number of options for upgrading its high schools. After review by a board-sponsored citizen action committee and several plan revisions, the district announced in November 2005 that it was moving forward with a plan to renovate the existing North Building, rather than construct a new high school building.

A citizens group, named "State High VISION," is protesting the school board's decision to renovate, believing instead that the Board has not fully evaluated all options, or accurately assessed public support or opposition for the project.

At an estimated cost of cost of $102 million, the school renovation project stands to have a long-term effect on every district resident. Do you support the renovation plan? Or, do you feel the district should give additional consideration to alternative solutions and allow public input into the decision?
