Appalachian Outdoors Plans Move into Old Eddie Bauer Space

South Allen Street

no description

The Eddie Bauer store in downtown State College closed earlier this month, but the Allen Street storefront may not be vacant for long.

Appalachian Outdoors store owner Geoff Brugler recently purchased the building that housed Eddie Bauer, said Jody Alessandrine, the Downtown Improvement District executive director.

He said Brugler plans to move Appalachian Outdoors into the former Eddie Bauer space, 131 S. Allen St.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the outdoors-oriented store will retain its current space, right next door at 123 S. Allen St. Brugler was traveling and could not be reached immediately on Wednesday.

Alessandrine said that Eddie Bauer, which leased its Allen Street space, had not been looking to leave downtown State College. He said the Downtown Improvement District will ‘try actively to bring (Eddie Bauer) back here sooner rather than later.’

Meanwhile, Alessandrine said, the expected movement of Appalachian Outdoors ‘speaks volumes about the viability of business in downtown State College.’ He called it a local-business success story.

A call to Eddie Bauer’s corporate office was not immediately returned on Wednesday.

StateCollege.com will post more information as it becomes available.
