Centre County Adds 2 COVID-19 Deaths, 182 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 22,245 New Positives

Centre County registered two new COVID-19 deaths and 182 more cases of the virus on Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county now has 300 deaths attributed to the virus since the start of the pandemic, including 11 reported in 2022. The new cases bring the county’s total to 28,916 (26,093 confirmed and 2,823 probable).

Centre County’s moving seven-day average for new cases is 283.

Pennsylvania reported 22,245 new COVID-19 positives to bring the statewide total to 2,316,537. It was the commonwealth’s lowest increase since Jan. 3. The statewide seven-day average is 28,153.

With 213 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, Pennsylvania’s total is now 37,899.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has 42 COVID-19 inpatients, five fewer than on Monday, with seven in intensive care and seven on ventilators.

The patients range in age from 27 to 93, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twelve are fully vaccinated and 30 are not vaccinated.

For the sixth consecutive day, Pennsylvania hospitals had a record number of COVID-19 inpatients, surpassing 7,000 for the first time. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard 7,149 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide, 258 more than on Monday, with 1,112 patients in intensive care [+34] and 669 on ventilators [+13].

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has one active COVID-19 case among inmates, one fewer than on Monday, and 14 among staff [-8].

Rockview state prison has four active inmate cases [-1] and 37 among staff [-11].

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,496 inmates are fully vaccinated, 13 are partially vaccinated and 193 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 307 are fully vaccinated and 321 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,703 inmates who are fully vaccinated, one who is partially vaccinated and 61 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 339 are fully vaccinated [-1] and 378 are not vaccinated [+1].

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Tuesday morning, 91,812 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 122 since the last DOH update on Sunday, and 13,388 are partially covered [+86]. Booster doses have been administered to 39,386 county residents [+786].

Among the county’s entire population, 66.9% have received at least one dose and 57.4% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 72.2% have received at least one dose and 61.8% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 74.6% of adults and 64.5% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
