Centre County Adds 57 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 4,816 New Positives

Centre County reported 57 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday — its most since April 25 — to bring its total to 17,766, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases 16,124 are confirmed and 1,642 are probable.

Pennsylvania added 4,816 new positives — its most since April 17 — to increase the statewide total to 1,308,284.

The county also had 98 negative results to bring the total to 75,633. Across Pennsylvania, there were new 9,349 negatives for a total of 5,162,082.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 231.

With 90 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 28,325

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 22 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, unchanged from Wednesday. Two are in intensive care and one is on a ventilator.

Pennsylvania has 1,858 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 23 since Wednesday, with 481 in intensive care [-1] and 229 on ventilators [-6]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 9.

An estimated 93% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Transmission Level

Centre County remains at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Wednesday afternoon.

Statewide, 66 of 67 counties are at the high level of transmission. Only Bradford County is at the substantial level, the second highest on the CDC scale.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Thursday morning, 80,594 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+118 since Wednesday] and 6,508 are partially covered [-13]. According to the CDC, 59.7% of the county’s entire population and 66.6% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 66% of Pennsylvania adults are fully vaccinated and the commonwealth ranks fifth nationally for total doses administered.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
