Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 25 COVID-19 inpatients, two fewer than on Thursday. The patients range in age from 28 to 90 according to a hospital spokesperson.

Because of an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations over the past several weeks, the medical center will restrict visitations beginning on Saturday, Mount Nittany Health announced on Friday. Patients at the hospital will not be permitted visitors, except in special circumstances. Emergency department patients can be accompanied by a caregiver or support person, provided the patient is not “under investigation for COVID-19, or COVID positive.”

In March, the hospital had a total of 124 COVID positive inpatients, with an average daily census of 18 and a median patient age of 63. From March 15 to 30, 72 people were hospitalized due to COVID-19.

The statewide rise in hospitalizations continued on Friday. Across Pennsylvania, 2,173 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 433 in intensive care and 204 on ventilators.

An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.
