Though overall testing was lower because of the Memorial Day weekend, Centre County and Pennsylvania saw notable lows in new COVID-19 cases over the last three days.
Centre County reported no new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday for the first time since Aug. 10, 2020. The county added four cases combined on Sunday and Monday to bring its total to 16,857.
On Monday, Pennsylvania reported 315 new positives statewide, the lowest daily increase since March 25, 2020. With 489 new cases on Sunday and 684 on Tuesday, the statewide total is now 1,202,863.
The county had 121 additional negative test results over the three days to increase its total to 69,720. Across Pennsylvania, there were 10,234 new negatives for a total of 4,604,962.
Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating eight COVID-19 inpatients between the ages of 59 and 94, six fewer than the hospital’s last update on Friday. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, two COVID-19 patients in Centre County are in intensive care and one is on a ventilator.
Statewide, COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped below 1,000 for the first time since Oct. 21. Across Pennsylvania, 989 COVID-19 inpatients, a decrease of 87 since Saturday, with 248 in intensive care [-20] and 140 on ventilators [-20].
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the county’s total at 224.
With 11 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide over the past three days — six on Sunday, five on Monday and none on Tuesday — Pennsylvania’s total is now 27,214.
An estimated 95% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.
As of Tuesday morning, 68,910 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 13,337 are partially covered.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 54.2% of Pennsylvania adults are fully vaccinated and 71% have received a first dose.
Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov. The state-run Regional Vaccination Clinic at the Bryce Jordan Center offers vaccines to individuals 18 and older by appointment or walk-in.
