Before Santa Claus got down to business delivering gifts on Christmas Eve, he paid a visit to neighborhoods around the Centre Region, thanks to Alpha Fire Company.

The volunteer fire company’s decades-long tradition of escorting Santa through area neighborhoods continued on Sunday, with a convoy of engines serving as sleighs.

Decked out in Christmas lights and decorations, the engines departed station 5 on South Atherton Street to begin a journey that would last about five hours, with east and west routes to reach as many neighborhoods as possible.

Santa rode on top of one truck, waving and greeting families. Periodic stops allowed kids of all ages to say hello, while Alpha members handed out candy canes to those waiting along the routes to catch a glimpse of the big guy on his big night.

Exact routes were posted on the Alpha Fire Company website, and residents are able to track the Alpha routes in real-time here by typing SANTE or SANTAW in the call sign box.
